The Local area
Granada airport, with cheap flights every day from London and Liverpool,
is less than 20 minutes away. Water sports can be enjoyed at the nearby
Embalse de Cubillas. Granada is a vibrant, historic university city,
justifiably one of Europe's top tourist destinations. Spain's highest
skiing is in the Sierra Nevada, less than an hour's drive, and numerous
golf courses are under construction around Granada to add to existing
facilities. The area has everything for life and leisure!
Puerto Lopes is a working village, with a post office, banks,
doctors, dentist, four supermarkets, butcher, baker, hardware store
and chemist. There is a disco and several cafes and bars where one
can sit and watch the world go by. You can still see the “goat
man” wandering around the area, with his dog and a walking stick
in hand.
Moclin - a typical whitewashed village perched on a hillside,
with the Moors hilltop fortress, (it was in this very area where the
Moors made their last stand against the Christians) and the spectacular
views over Granada to the Sierra Nevada. Set in a Natural Park with
wonderful walks and tourism growing in the Granada Province, continuing
prosperity is assured for this beautiful part of Spain.
Alcala la Real - a small town overlooked by a large hilltop
fortress. There is a large Tuesday market, for anything from a kilo
of oranges to a goat or family of chickens! The town centre has a
very pretty park, where you can sit in the shade and enjoy a leisurely
cup of coffee and light lunch.
Montefrio - cradled between two rocky outcrops, Montefrio is
acclaimed for its morcilla (black pudding) and chorizo, excellent
at the bar La Fonda.
Pinos Puente A small market town about 6-7km from Montesol.
Pinos Puente has a good selection of shops, including a very modern
large supermarket and 24 hour emergency medical clinic. On an evening
out in the La Cruz de Granada restaurant you can treat yourself to
one of the best steaks you have ever tasted.
Granada is one of the pearls of Spain, visited by tourists
from all over the world. The long-time capital of Moorish Andalusia
has to offer the most important reminders of this epoch in Spanish
history, with the world-famous "Alhambra" at the top of
the list. |
